Our Purpose
To equip South Australian hotels to respond to community concerns about gambling harm by enabling early intervention and practical support for patrons and their families.
Our Goal
A compliant, proactive hotel industry that partners with regulators, Gambling Help Services, and the community to reduce gambling harm.
What We Do
Gaming Care is the responsible gambling early-intervention agency established by the Australian Hotels Association (SA) in 2005 and recognised by the Liquor and Gambling Commissioner under the Gaming Machines Act 1992. We work with every SA hotel that operates gaming machines to minimise harm by:
- Building capability: On-site coaching and support so venue teams can spot indicators of harm, start respectful conversations, and record concerns accurately.
- Strengthening referral pathways: Helping staff intervene early and make warm referrals to Gambling Help Services, or offer other appropriate support options.
- Supporting compliance: Practical guidance on Code of Practice obligations, policies, procedures, signage and record-keeping.
- Collaborating across the sector: Connecting venues with regulators, Gambling Help Services and community organisations to deliver consistent, coordinated support.
All participating hotels partner with Gaming Care under an agreement that gives our team reasonable access to staff for training, coaching and compliance support—so venues have the confidence and skills to help patrons sooner.
